Gae Aulenti for Zanotta, 'Locus Solus' armchair, chromed tubular steel, blue leatherette, Italy, 1964 This Locus Solus armchair, designed by Gae Aulenti and produced by Zanotta, is one of Aulenti’s most playful design pieces, with close features of the architectural structures she designed for Milan's Piazza Cadorna. The design was initially meant for outdoor use and merged functional aspects with pop attitude. The tubular chairs are also featured in the iconic movie 'La Piscine', for which Aulenti created them in bright yellow. This chromed version with blue leatherette seat has a more classic appearance and is a great addition to a contemporary home. Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) was an Italian architect. She is well-known for several large-scale museum projects, including the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and Palazzo Grassi in Venice. Aulenti was at the forefront of Italian post-war design. Her design was meant to make connections with both history and future of Italy. The postmodern movement that Aulenti belonged to refused to design in the objective language of the modernists. This Avant Garde Postmodern design movement was the beginning of new type of Italian art, architecture and design. Please note that the chair is in good, used condition with signs of age and use. Two-light floor lamp designed by Marzio Rusconi for Kundalini. A piece of furniture that exudes class and elegance, ideal both as a reading lamp and as a light point to create dimmable ambient lighting. The diffuser is made from a laser-cut Plexiglas tube and fixed on a steel base. It mounts two 12-watt (equal to 120-watt incandescent) LED bulbs with a Projection (120°) dish. Industrial language finds a singular expressiveness and plays with clean, essential lines. The tubular diffuser cut diagonally at both ends takes on new momentum. ’Sphere’ lounge chairs I Designed by Boris Tabacoff in 1971 Manufactured by the French MMM (Mobilier Modular Moderne) These chairs have a characteristic brown acrylic shell which holds a thick comfortable cushion. The cushion is left un-upholstered The acrylic glass shell is held by a heavy circular base made of chromed metal. Boris Tabacoff is a Bulgarian designer who is one of the artists of the Post-War School of Paris (1945-2000). He was the very first designer from the Ecole de Paris after the war to create furniture and objects in acrylic glass. Creator of the first Cardin acrylic glass furniture. He benefits from the Glorious Thirties in France and his workshop creates and manufactures Design de Cardin. It is very present in the art magazines of the 60s and 70s thanks to Cardin using acrylic ass for the edition of bathtubs, chairs, tables, and the famous Cardin clocks, as well as all kinds of prestigious desks in acrylic glass. The outstanding 1963 model Torchere is the new star of Les Editions Serge Mouille. Minutiously replicated by Carl who was Mouille’s protegé to further expend Mouille's works prior to his death in 1988. So it will be an Atelier Serge Mouille lamp numbered of up to 50 pairs with the choice of right and left as per photographs here below. The fixing is also very special. Unlike any other Mouille's who specifically insisted that the lamp fixes against the wall will a brass ring !
