With several museums and important private collections as clients, it is a continuous journey across the world to find the rarest items of fire and earth. Delft tiles were my first inspiration. As a teenager, I would visit most of Bruges' antiques dealers on a regular basis, looking to add something of interest to my small but ever-growing collection. It was actually my grandfather, painter Guillaume Michiels (1909-1997), who sparked that fire in my life. A constant exposure to his collection inspired me to pursue his career as a collector. Today, there are several hundreds antique tiles in my inventory. As time went on, I started to broaden my horizon. Nowadays, my interest lies in ceramics from all over the world. Dutch Delftware, Chinese porcelain, Iznik pottery, or even contemporary art ... you name it. The more you learn about these interesting fields, the better you realise that there is still so much left to explore. | |

Next to my job as a consultant for Christie's, and for more than 10 years now, I open twice a year my house, presenting my latest discoveries. It's always a wonderful experience for me, finding a unique piece, getting inspired by it, travelling different parts of the world, meeting people and discovering their culture and antique objects. I select all kind of objects and furniture. They may be of different periods and styles. They can be simple, elegant or rough, but mostly timeless, genuine, with pure lines, made of an interesting material, of an aesthetic or intruiging character. An item will have a new story depending on the spot you choose for it, it will be strenghten in combination with another piece or it will complete a collection. Assembling and creating a warm atmosphere, an enjoyable and pleasant home with authentic items and so is my passion and I can't wait to share it with you. |

| Description:Joanna Booth has been established in Chelsea since 1965 and has a diverse stock of Sculpture, particularly early Wood Carvings, Textiles and Tapestries, Old Master Drawings and early Furniture. The combination nonetheless makes an interesting mix and is reminiscent of the Renaissance interior with its emphasis on fabrics and ornament.
We traded from a shop in Kings Road for forty two years but closed in August 2007. We will however continue exhibiting at Fairs and can be contacted by telephone, fax or email. (see Contact us) Viewing of our stock is now by appointment and we have both an apartment and storage in Chelsea and we would be delighted to show you any items at either site. Ian White is continuing to work with me and manages to combine his music commitments with antiques. He is also responsible for our improved photography. When I am absent either at our Mill on the Welsh borders or busy with grandchildren he has complete charge. We exhibit at Fairs in London and abroad (see Events page). The Fairs give us more scope to display larger pieces and demonstrate how many of these early pieces look so fantastic in modern interiors. | Description:Leopold Antiques and Design is a family owned business run by Carlo Vanseer who has acquired many years of expertise in the antique business. He has been a prominent member of the Royal Guild of Flemish Antique dealers (De Koninklijke Gilde van Vlaamse Antiquairs). Based at the Leopoldwal in Tongeren, at the center of the famous Tongeren flea market, Leopold Antiques and Design has specialized in three branches of the antique business. These branches are antiques, art nouveau art glass and design. Carlo Vanseer represents the third generation of a family of antique dealers. He and his forefathers were specialized in 19th century antiques, mainly of western european origin with an emphasis on the French Napoleon III period. At an early age he became interested in French Art Nouveau glass from makers such as Emile Gallé and Daum Frères. He became an expert in this area at the age of 25. Until a few years Leopold Antiques only dealt in items up to the 1930’s but this has now changed. It is now an interesting mix of antique, Art Nouveau, Art Deco 50’s 60’s and 70’s decorative items and furniture. | |

| Description:Les origines de l’hôtel des ventes Elysée remontent aux années septante au moment où José Fairon reprend la salle des ventes de Monsieur Werts située rue aux Chevaux dans le quartier Saint Léonard. Peu de temps après, il réalise l’acquisition d’un bâtiment sis à la rue Saint-Léonard, toujours dans le même quartier. Quelques années plus tard, il prend possession de l’Elysée Palace qui était une salle de cinéma Art déco, qui allait faire l’objet de travaux considérables pour rejoindre l’immeuble arrière de la rue Souverain Pont et devenir l’Hôtel des Ventes Elysée au cœur de notre cité ardente. C’est en 2006 que la salle des ventes trouve son nid définitif aux alentours de la région liégeoise et plus précisément à Grivegnée. Après avoir été totalement transformé, l’ancien garage est enfin prêt pour répondre à sa nouvelle destinée. En manque d’espace de stockage, de nouveaux travaux ont été entamés afin de transformer le parking adjacent en un entrepôt de stockage. Et, comme les idées ne manquent pas,voilà qu’en cours de chantier, l’affectation est revue et corrigée par le maître de l’ouvrage qui y verrait bien un espace d’exposition d’art contemporain. Aussitôt dit, aussitôt fait! notre homme et son fils Christophe conçoivent un espace aux allures de loft, déployé sur quelques cinq cent mètres carrés et divisible en entités modulables de manière à s’adapter à différents types d’expositions. | |
